Throwing together some pasta, veggies and protein is always tasty and it can be different every time. This week, I pulled this combo together: Lemon Pepper Pasta with asparagus and shrimp, garnished with a sprinkling of bacon crumbles and fresh parsley.
Ingredients:
4 green onions (chopped, use both whites and greens)
1 tbs olive oil
1/4 cup white wine

Spaghetti is a dinner stand-by. However, I’m not a big tomato fan, so if I make spaghetti and meatballs, I opt for more pasta and meat sauce, than spaghetti and red sauce. Here’s the latest variation on spaghetti sauce: red wine, basil and kalamata olives.
Meat Sauce:
1/2 yellow onion diced
1 lb lean ground beef
large can tomato [...]

My wonderful man wanted to make a pie, so I encouraged him to use a can of boisenberries we had in our cupboard to make a fruit pie. It didn’t exactly go as planned. Here’s the story…
First off, he checked out the boisenberries can, and lo and behold there was a recipe on the label, [...]

In celebration of my birthday today, I went to my favorite breakfast place in Denver: Lucile’s.
It’s a creole-style breakfast and lunch place, with just a very few locations in Colorado. All their breakfasts are delicious. This morning I had Eggs Eisenhower: bacon, eggs, potatoes, and a biscuit with the fabulous strawberry rhubarb jam. And three [...]

I went to a birthday party over the weekend and saw this marvel of cake making and decorating. Truly a work of edible art.
I asked where such a beautiful shimmering cake could come from, and then I heard about the Denver Cake Nazi (a la Seinfeld’s “soup nazi”). If you are interested in a one-of-a-kind, [...]

No kidding. Bacon vodka is out there. I love bacon and I love vodka. A match made in heaven? I’m not sure. But I’d like to find out.
From the Bakon Vodka site:
“Bakon Vodka is a superior quality potato vodka with a savory bacon flavor. It’s clean, crisp, and delicious. This is the only vodka you’ll [...]

I love dough. Pierogi are a yummy way to satisfy my dough cravings. I prefer savory pierogi, pan-fried. Of course, home made is always the best, and these are easy to make. I prepare large batches and freeze them uncooked, so I can plop them in boiling water any time for a snack or dinner.
Dough [...]

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. When I want to have a productive work day, I make sure I eat a large breakfast so I’m not snacking or growling my way to lunch. Having the same thing every day gets boring, why not make breakfast exciting? This past week, [...]
